Blown away-- where to go from here

i stumbled upon this website a few weeks ago due to the jw.org ridiculousness, since then i haven't been able to pull myself away.

the thoughts, feelings, and concerns i have had the past few years aren't just mine.

it's global.

Isn't it an amazing feeling to find out you are not alone ,and that there is NOT something wrong with you ???? I remeber my first time reading this forum I was BLOWN away .I had spent a couple of yrs thinking it was just me that was seeing some major flaws with in my religion.,

I was born in ,and raised as a witness, and then walked away after 44 yrs. It took some adjusting . The best advice I was given at that time was this _ Don't think you have to have all the answers at once ! It is okay not to know everything . Take your time reading researching ,and then just mulling over what you find .

In my case I left still believing in the Bible ,Jesus and Jehovah ,but then over the course of the last ten yrs my beliefs have changed . The whole point of leaving a controlling cult like organization is to now think for yourself ,and make your own decisions ! You Know that evil ,evil thing called Independant thinking ....yeah it is pretty great !

My daughter in law is studying to be a biologist ,she wants to do cancer research . Her JW sister in law told her ,"I already know the cure for cancer "(Gods Kingdom).....So in other words don't waste your time in College .UGH ! They are all so full of ....charm ...

What my mother should have done.

this is somewhat of a rant but every time i think of it it just pisses me off.. .

i never understood why my mom would never switch to another hall or whatever when she knew how i was treated by the people who were supposedly the 'best' association around.

my older sister also, because neither of us really had any jw friends because for whatever reason i guess we were pegged as the baddies because our dad wasn't witness (still isn't) and my mother stayed sick a lot so she wasn't able to do half of whatever was required.. .

Thank you Eunie for sharing your story . It brought tears to my eyes ,because I felt the same way growing up ! My Dad too was not a JW so I never fit in at the hall or school .Same exact senario ....

Thank goodness you are young and know your own mind . You can break the chain ,and make sure your future children have a quality life you were kept from ,in the process you will find joy too. Before you have children start the healing process for yourself .Join in something fun that you enjoy and make friends . Are you going to college ? That would be an awesome place to start .

Your Mom did what she thought was right ,no matter how much we know IT WAS NOT ! I blame the cult and its influence on peoples thinking . I know deep down my mom loved me and wanted me to be happy ...she just had this religion twisting her natural affection and holding her real personality hostage . I was in the religion and raised my own children in it ,so I understand . She just didn't have the strength in her to take a stand against it ,she really believed it was Gods will......one of the reasons i am now agnostic . I reached a point of breaking and was able to leave with my immediate family .Thankfully we are all slowly learning how to be happy !

Good luck to you and to your journey ...it is yours to take and you can go down any road you choose .Be happy ,be free and don't let the past drag you down .

I think this is closure for me.

well, i have finally got rid of my baptism cards.

the congratulations cards....the wt ones, the ones with sheep on etc.... all gone.

they dated back to 23/09/2000.. has anyone else "purged" their witness past this way?.

I went through stages . The current literature went first . Then bound volumes and service literature . When it was all out of the house I filled my bookcases with science,art,and nature books . It felt like a weight lifted .

Something kept nagging at me though ,holding me back ...it was the albums of pictures I had of all the 'old' conditional friends . I was the local photographer for several years ,so I had multiple weddings,engagements ,babies ect of our old jw acquaintances . I finally purged those from my home too ,and it felt like closure finally for me after I did that .

Glad you are feeling some closure for yourself too .

PEER PRESSURE!!! I gave in to Pioneering during August...I feel dirty...

ok, i'll admit it...i am weak.... as everyone knows, the pressure to "pioneer" during "the most momentous, awesome, amazing, centenary anniversay of jesus invisble kigdom rule, & distribute tracts about a dodgy website" campaign is very strong at the moment.... also, many will have read my threads about the extreme views and expectations in our cong for "all appointed men to pioneer" etc..... every elder and ms and their families have been announced as pioneering....i mean everyone's name was read out except mine..... i was not going to do it, as i do not believe anyone should be forced...(and of course its the last thing on earth i would rather do anyway since learning ttatt).

but i am not quite ready to make the break yet, so i realised that i would stand out more if i didnt put in a form to pioneer.

yes it would make me more conspicious, and make fading harder to do...it would bring more heat on me if i didnt pioneer.. so i gave in and submitted a form.... now, of course, i'm only going to make sure i'm seen at the key field service groups etc...but then go and do something more interesting...like count blades of grass..... ahh....i feel hypocritical to myself now......

there is life outside the organisation, which i have the pleasure to have experienced, since december.

i went to a lovely church wedding saturday, followed by a reception.

Friday night we met friends at the local Bar and grill for supper . It was crowded so we were seated in a side room that has large tables . After we start ordering here comes one of the local Elders with his large family and sits down behind us . LOL The looks on their faces were priceless when they saw who they were going to be sharing eating space with

After dinner we drove to an outside Concert to wish an old friend (exjw) a Happy Birthday . Another Ex-Jw friend met us there and we went to see a Blues band play for a while .

On Saturday we met our foodie friends for breakfast then went to yard sales. That afternoon I attended my future daughter in laws Bridal shower . In the evening another outdoor band with dinner and friends . Sunday my husband went to help a friend work on her model A Ford ,then home to couch time and movies .

SOWHATNOW -- Don't give up you can make new friends . I was in since birth until I was 44yrs old . It was really tough the first few yrs out ,I was so lonely for friends . Facebook can be a good tool to reconnect . For me ,a Witness that was DF'd connected me to some of her non witness relatives ,and we have become good friends . Maybe think about getting a part time job . I met my best friend that way ! Also on facebook I have reconnected with other EX JWs that had left our Congregation or were Df'd over the years ,people like that help bring back a little common history into your life . We made aquaintences because of motorcycle riding too. Keep your chin up.

i came across this lecture at 3am not being able to sleep by dan baker.

it details his transition from christian fundamentalist to atheist and the various shades in-between.

he realises that every denomination of christian can open the bible and prove to you that they have the right interpretation and everyone else is wrong.
